Foolers

My son loves his pacifiers. We have them in a variety of colors and styles. Some cheer for a particular sports team and some express love for mommy. The lactation nurses in the hospital regaled stories of doom and gloom related to this seemingly simple baby apparatus. "It will cause nipple confusion in your breastfed baby!" "Don't start giving a pacifier to your child until he is 3 weeks old." "Pacifier's cause malnutrition." Phil and I were so freaked out. We were new parents striving to provide for our son and not mess him up too terribly early. Ha! We were so naive!

We were apprehensive a 2 weeks but ended up giving him a pacifier in desperation. I remember my hand shaking as I put it in his mouth. He took it right away and ever since sucks away and has continued to grow and never had "nipple confusion." In fact he is in the 97th percentile for height and weight. He LOVES to eat but also has a sucking urge that transcends human fulfillment. Pacifiers are our little saviours. Fussy at church? Pop that puppy in. Waking up in the middle of the night for no reason? One tall order of sucking coming right up.

While packing to leave our apartment for the summer Phil ventured under the crib to collect the long lost friends that had made a break for it during the night. I have posted a photo of the crew that was recovered. Thank goodness for those little old friends. I salute you!

New Car

We got a new car today. Yay! I (Allison) am especially so excited! It feels like we have been looking forever. We have spent a lot of time looking and researching safety, gas mileage, etc.

We test drove a Buick Rendezvous and loved it! It drives really nice. It is used (2003) but we feel really good about it. We negotiated a good deal and it has a third row back seat that makes it able to seat six! It is kind of minivanish which was a big drawback for Phil but I was thinking that a minivan might be the best option for us anyway! There are many great things about it.

On another note...while test driving vehicles, I found out that I have a lead foot! One of the salesmen said that about me and Phil was quick to agree! I think that is so funny! No wonder my dad was always checking out my car when I would come home from school. He always asked me how it was driving and if I was driving too fast? Apparently I am not that great of a driver?

Dos De Mayo

So Phil finished his classes on Thursday!! What a relief! Two years down and two to go. I am so proud of him. It was a tough year at some points and it feels good to put that behind us. I do know that Phil is really glad that he decided to go to the business school. It was challenging at times but he learned a lot!!! I really am so proud of his accomplishments!!!!

We celebrated the end of the semester with a Dos de Mayo party at our house. The McNeilly's and the Gaynor's came over on Friday night and we had a wonderful meal. It was our little going away celebration before we all go our separate ways this summer. It was a very good time and we will miss our friends!!! We miss the Gaynor's already!
